Made in the Ossau Valley in Béarn and Irati Forest in Basque Country, Ossau Iraty is a wonderful French ewe's milk cheese and one of only two French ewe's milk cheeses granted AOC status (Roquefort is the other) and as such Ossau Iraty can only be made with unpasteurised milk from specific breeds of sheep.

With a firm, yet creamy texture and lovely fruity and caramel flavours, Ossau Iraty is a certain crowd pleaser. With certain batches made in the winter you get an earthy nuttiness to the cheese that lingers on the tongue and is a delight with stone fruits such as plums and nectarines.

For summer cheeses that are a little lighter, they can be enjoyed with a glass of rosé and some earthy crackers or oatcakes, perfect for relaxing in the garden.
